Interlude - Putting the "Jean" in Jean Greige

Photos from around the interwebz. Click 'em for the source.

I have always loved denim; I absolutely adore how deeply rooted it is in American culture, especially in California, where Levi Strauss invented jeans as workwear for the goldrush miners. Since today was rainy, I thought I'd take this opportunity to share some of my favorite denim garb from the torso up. Anyone can do jeans and cut-offs, but what I'm really digging for Spring/Summer is denim vests and jackets, especially with studs. They make excellent layering piece with skirts and dresses.

I studded and shredded a denim vest yesterday (none of the above pictured) and will post photos once the sun comes out. I've always thought of my look as "grunge gypsy biker", but lately the biker aesthetic has been dominating.

  1. i've always described my style as "hippie on the back of a motorcycle."

i think the obvious fact is that we both need motorcycles, as soon as possible. followed by a motorcycle gang, followed by ridiculously sweet unified biker garb.

  3. Wow, that first jacket is absolutely stunning. I'd been considering looking into a lighter jacket to wear on spring/summer evenings, but didn't think to stud it. (A friend of mine's sending me some pyramid studs for me to use on my leather jacket, but hell, I'd probably use a denim jacket much more often than a leather one during warm months.)

Also, the photo of the denim vest with 'Sex Pistols' -- isn't she on Lookbook? I could have sworn I saw that on the front page this evening, just a different shot. :)

  13. So much lovely denim. I was too lazy to check out the sources, but whoever that is wearing "the end" jacket in the last photo has a little copycat with some major plans. Also, I may be cranky about Erin Wasson for who she is, but the lady looks lovely in photos.
