73 - Summer Lovin', Havin' a Blast

Inspired by my last inspiration post, I decided yesterday to dress like the kind of person whose jokes are never understood. I think it worked. I wore this nuts concoction to the Rose Bowl flea market with Brit and Nicki, as well as our wonderful friend Colleen, who does not have a blog.

And I think that people just regarded us as some strange sort of spectacle, occasionally venturing up to ask for photographs or inquire about something we were wearing. By the end of it, Nicki and I were both walking around with carpet bags in addition to our usual purses, adding to the gaggle's overall "what-tha?" allure.

Inspired by the below editorial and by all of the sights I took in yesterday, I put together a summer shopping checklist for myself. I've included links to similar or pertinent products, just so that we're all on the same page here, but you know me...I'll be at the thrift stores seeing what I can find that approximates the below items.

You should probably get some more jewelry.
Yeah, that outfit looks good, but I think it is missing some jewelry.

Jewelry is really the only thing on this list that is a sure-buy for me. I don't know why it's okay for me to spend money on jewelry...maybe the longevity of it is comforting or something.

    Totally feeling that lipstick color like whoa. I have a hard time buying lipstick from anywhere other than MAC since I use my pro discount...so I'll have to find a color similar to this one. Me likey.

    I sort of was gawked at yesterday at the mall. I was wearing high waisted denim cut-offs with a linen hippie-style top and my black southwestern-y belt, and got some weird looks. Interesting how I was getting the same reaction as the guy I saw who had done his makeup a la The Crow and had tripple-mohawked his hair. I guess some people just never feel the need to dress up? I try not to let it weird me out though; I can't stand feeling like a slob when I go out.

    Also, love that list! Jewelery is a very easy thing to buy, and is typically affordable anyway. I'll be digging through this list religiously throughout the summer. (Especially since I now need to put together an outfit consisting of knit shorts, beaded flat sandals, and a studded denim vest -- oh, and I guess a shirt would help, too.)

    i love this. whenever i try to wear a scarf on my head i feel ridiculous, but i love how it looks on you.

    as for your list, i think "something nonsensical" is a perfect summer item and then i clicked on the link and had no idea what i was looking at. so i'm probably gonna strive for something a little more sensical.

    Love this, especially the layered tanks. I bought the Nastygal studded shorts a few weeks ago. They're pretty amazing, but run somewhat large, which stinks since the XS isn't quite small enough, but still a good buy.

    Oh wow those last two face photos are gorgeous- I wish you could give me make-up lessons.

    I think living in freaking DALLAS my whole life made me completely immune to the staring.
    OH ya but Joey used to get stared at constantly when he lived in Japan (NOT admiringly- more like zoo animal creepy stares), and has some pretty hilarious stories about his nutso reactions after having dealt with it for like a year.
    So I was totally thinking about putting my "new season wants list" on the blog. I might still go ahead and copycat you, fyi.
    But then I might just ponder whether certain government officials are holograms or not.
