87 - Beachy Keen

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE
(PART DEUX)

Option 1: La Casa de Fruta, the Best Rest Stop in All the Land

Option 2: Beach Bum

Option 3: NoMad-eline & The Great Frontier (Ha!)
Shawl - Urban Outfitters (they are apparently having a huge crazy sale!), Shirt - Boyfriend's Vintage, Shorts - Jeans Bought from Crossroads & Hacked into Somethin' Crazy, Boots - Steve Madden, Jewelry - Konstantino + Flea Market + Oak NYC's A. OK + La Casa de Fruta rest stop

Yep, we've got another post that is total photo overload. These were taken on the drive from San Jose to LA. We stopped off at my favorite rest stop of all time, Casa de Fruta. Casa de Fruta is like a miniature orchard wonderland, with a playground, merry-go-round, lake, miniature train, and funny little shops that sell fruit and candy and total junk. In the "total junk" section of the store, I scored a beaded bracelet and a little necklace that both read Madeline. How stoked was I?! As a child, nobody else was named Madeline, so I never had personalized little charms like my classmates. Now, white yuppie women everywhere are naming their daughters Madeline, apparently, and I get to reap the rewards of dressing way too ridiculously for my age. Sveet.

Then, driving back, we passed by this crazy blue lake, which I have always seen on my mini-California road trips. It is such a stunning bright blue! It was pure coincidence that my outfit seemed to capture this beach bum gypsy vibe. I put this look on specifically so that I would be comfortable in the drive. But alas, you get photos of me runnin' around that little lake-shore. I'm giving you a grand tour of California, folks. Welcome to my home.

There is a necklace in the above that is worth noting. See the multi-crystal necklace that looks like jagged teeth? That was another gift from the fine folks at Oak NYC, in an effort to share with y'all their "A. OK" line, which has super-rad stuff at a friendlier pricepoint. Go check it out!

  14. Ohhh my god, I've been dying for a poncho like that -- open cape style with square kimono type sleeves. (I actually let one like that slip away on Etsy, but with its price at $36 without shipping, I just could never convince myself to buy it.)

You look really great with hair extensions! I kind of miss having longer hair, but if my hair even reaches my shoulders, I look weird. I think my face is just made for shorter hair.

Really loving this look, too. Love the shorts and the boots -- and as always, the necklaces!

#1: that drive is fucking perfection- and i've ALWAYS wanted to stop at that lake- i almost crash my car staring at it every time i've driven by. it's SO AMAZING.

#2: your outfit... i just have no words. "perfect" isn't descriptive enough. just picture me sitting here with my jaw on the floor.

#3: OH MY GOD YOUR HAIR!!!!!????? are they permanent extensions? the fishtail braids? brain.. is.. going.. to... explode...

thanks for turning my brain into oatmeal, madeline. thanks A LOT.

  19. Love the lighting in those lake photos. I gotta say, a lot of people are doing that pancho drug-rug thing, but you really do it best. I'm mostly uninterested in daily "what I wear blogs" but I'm dedicated to yours!

  29. OMG I wrote out this whole long comment about how your hair is blowing my mind, and your shirt is the holy grail of vintage tees, and how the fine people at OAK need to send me one of those jagged crystal necklaces, and how my name is also apparently trendy now (Margaret??), then I accidentally deleted it.
But my overall point is that you look amazing, and I am super jealous of every single thing you are wearing. Especially the boots- I used to have the same ones, and they disappeared. Hopefully ol' Steve is still making them, cause I want new ones!!

K, second comment was longer than my deleted one, whoopsies. You look beautiful, btw!

  30. Your hair is now my latest obsession. I will need a tutorial on how to do that to my own boring blonde strands, please. The background is GORGEOUS, I am so jealous!! The photo overload, as you call it, is most definitely necessary as every picture here is worth showing off you gorgeous gal.
