135 - An Outfit Post! Oh my wow.

Sweater and Shirt - Vintage (thrifted), Skirt - Thrifted then cut, Boots - Vintage from eBay, Jewelry - mostly c/o LSD, Belt - Forever 21, Lipstick - Revlon

Oh man, I have a blog?! Coulda fooled me, since it's been FOREVER since I did an outfit post.

I was wearing these boots in my good ol' hometown of Fresno over Thanksgiving weekend (shout out to my Fresno blogger babes Kelly, Deanna, and Ashley -- w00t w00t) and a very...ermm..."normy" looking girl complimented them while waiting in line at the coffee shop. I was so perplexed that when she said, "OMG, cute boots!" I just said, "Uh, really?" They are beyond beat-up, and she was wearing glittery ballet flats -- not that there's anything wrong with wearing glittery ballet flats; do what you wanna do -- but it was a very strange Odd Couple moment. I instantly pictured a montage of she and I hanging out together, new BFFs: going to the mall and flirting with boys and having sleepovers (her sleepover shirt reading "I <3 My Boyfriend" and mine reading "I Ate My Boyfriend"), me using her eyeliner as lipstick, me forcing her to go to shows, her giving me Cosmo to read while I thrust David Foster Wallace upon her. I'll bet her name was Bailey. Yeah, Madeline & Bailey, BFFs forever.

These boots are evidently the great unifier.

I did this maniac hometown thing where I went to Black Friday sales at midnight. If I can muster up the strength to put on makeup today, I'll do a video of my scores and post it later. It was sheer shopping madness, I tell you!

Also, I have like a buh-jillion absolutely amazing clothing things to show you guys. Carpet shoes! Crocodile-print babydoll dress! My collection of 80 amazing jackets! Dolce Vita leopard-print boots!

Tunnel Vision news: the launch has been postponed, largely because Brit and I are just having mental collapses every fifteen minutes. I swear, it will be up and running soon. In the meantime, we are kicking off pre-launch by selling on Chictopia's 12 Days of Chic! It's the best way to shop a few special pieces until the real launch.

  2. Lol I think it's because those sorts of boots are 'in' at the moment (along with other 'grunge' items) that she probably wouldn't have said it if it wasn't in fashion =\ Of course, I could be wrong, but you never know =P

  4. This post made me laugh, mostly because I have had someone compliment on the random clothes I like to call an outfit. I was flattered but similarly like, 'whaaat'.
Can't wait to see what you grabbed on Black Friday and a Crocidile-print dress sounds amazing!

  9. This is kind of creepy, but I was just wondering when you were going to be back in outfit posts! Your BFF story is epic and made me laugh. I know we don't exactly have in synch styles, but I do adore yours (as you probably know). I think it is way cool when people can appreciate all kinds of styles, especially those out of their element. And Bailey was right, those boots are bad ass (did she use that terminology?).

  11. Your insane plunging neckline first alarms me, then inspires me to try pulling it off. (Because I know that being flat-chested would make it work.) Then I think of all of the creepy guys in this town that give me the eye when I'm in my frumpy jeans, dorky polo and visor, and coffee-stained apron at work and I then crawl into bed and hiss at everything that looks at me. But I digress! You look so great; I'm thinking of cutting up the skirt of a button-up maxi dress I have that's floral print. I'm on the fence about it.

Ahh, I'm sorry TV is being postponed! But I'm actually selfish and am not that broken up about it, only because I have to refrain from spending any money on myself until all of my Christmas shopping is done, and I'd hate to miss out on all of your goodies. (Like the coin choker. Oh my goddd, I am dying for something like that.)

I really like your hair in this post! You are looking very glamorous! I do very much like you boots and I don't even own glittery ballet flats. I hope you and Brit can somehow keep your sanity! Do some yoga. Deep breathing. Whatever it takes.

  17. okay I seriously was just laughing hysterically alone in my room reading that bff excerpt (using her eyeliner as lipstick=yessssss). mostly because I can completely picture the scenario in detail, aaaand because I can relate(helloo weirdooos at salvation army). 20. Madeline- you are absolutely breathtaking ! You are a vision. Im loving this lipstick and your hair looks just lovely this light.

And I just have to say, I absolutely love reading your blog, I had to crack up like no other when you mentioned that if "Bailey" would wear a I love my boyfriend tee, you would wear a "I ATE my boyfriend" tee. You always make me smile with your great humor :)

Im going to stop now, gushing all over this comment section.

  30. was your response to that girl's compliment on your boots seriously as snarky as you made that sound? "uh, really?" yikes. it just seems a little judgey of you to predict you know so much about this girl's life from her shoes. not everyone feels comfortable expressing their inner self in the form of seeking out "the right clothes." maybe her favorite book is brief interviews with hideous men? maybe the girl can wear glitter flats AND read pop authors who write really, really long books about being in AA? the world is a mysterious place, you know. also, i think black friday is the great unifier...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't think it's judge-y to be surprised that someone complimented my beat-up boots. If anything, it gives her more credit than I give myself, because I look like a total ragamuffin to the extent that it surprises me that she would like my dirty shoes. As for the presupposing part, that's the joke: inventing an entire personality for someone after literally ten seconds of conversation is so ridiculous that it's funny. Ha...ha...ha... *crickets*
